David Berkeley joins us on Art of the Song this week. David is a romantic realist, known for his ability to look at the human condition in all its complexity and give us luminous songs full of sunshine and anguish, melancholy and delight. He stop by the studio in Albuquerque to talk about his project Some Kind of Cure that includes a CD and Book recalling his year long sojourn in a small village on the island of Corisca with his wife and new baby. This week on Art of the Song we welcome Austin based singer songwriter Carrie Elkin to the show. Originally from Ohio, this national champion acro gymnist made the transition from her job as an organic chemist to professional musician. She brings pure passion and soul to her lyrics and guitar styling. Carrie stopped by the studio on her tour through the southwest to talk with us about her career and her creative process.
Keith Sanchez is our guest this week on Art of the Song. From his roots in a small New Mexican town, to his formative years in El Salvador, to working for Carlos Santana as music director for his restaurants, Keith tackles politics, culture and love with his edgy, rootsy blues and latino music. We spoke with him about his creative journey at Hotel Anaduluz in downtown Albuquerque with an intimate audience of fans.
This week we take a journey into classical choral and organ music with Canadian born organist and choral director, Maxine Thevenot. Maxine enjoys a distinguished international career and makes her home in Albuquerque, N.M. where she is Director of Choral Music and Organist at the Cathedral Church of St. John, director of the a cappella chorale Polyphony - Voices of New Mexico and director of University of New Mexico's women's chorus Las Cantantes. This week on Art of the Song we welcome Eve Fleishman to the program. Eve stopped in the studio while on tour with a fascinating project, Peace Or Drama - A Journey Through Music And Art. An inspired Jazz vocalist, Eve asked 13 Painters to listen to a song of hers and paint their response. This week we welcome Americana great Kevin Welch to the program. Kevin hit the road at 17 with his first band eventually landing in Nashville where he worked for over 20 years as a staff songwriter for Sony Tree Recordings, writing for many of the top recording artists. Kevin’s path as a master craftsman of song lead him to a recording career of his own and now he tours extensively and teaches songwriting at his home in Wimberly, Texas.
